Rehovot Mayor Yehoshua Forer Greets International Women's Film Festival 2007
Dear film devotees, residents and distinguished guests,
The City of Rehovot takes great pride in hosting the International Women’s Film Festival for the fourth consecutive year. The Festival continues to highlight and promote women's creativity in film. Rehovot, the City of Science and Culture, firmly believes in the power of women to create, to advance and to improve the status of women in society. Throughout the year we conduct a wide array of activities through a forum led by the women of the city and also during the Festival the feminine view of humanity will take center stage in the films shown and in the events scheduled.
The Festival offers its guests a wonderful opportunity to be partner to very special encounters with Israeli women filmmakers, to listen to panels on significant social issues arising from the films screened and to actually meet with the filmmakers, sharing impressions about the creative process. The Festival also plays an important role in advancing a part of the film industry striving to be instated as an alternative to the standard commercial movies and television that is the normal diet of the Israeli viewing public.
More than 70 films by women from Israel and around the world will be screened. These creative works were not only directed by women but also reflect the female perspective. This year the Nashim B’Tmoona Association, which produces and manages the Festival, chose to present films from the European Union along with Israeli films. It will also dedicate a special program to the youth in Rehovot.
I wish to heartily thank the European Union that supports the Festival and extend a warm welcome to the renowned Polish director Dorota Kędzierzawska, for whom a special retrospective will be featured, and to the respected filmmakers from Spain, Belgium, Poland, Germany and France who are planning to come to the screening of their own films.
I wish to congratulate the “Nashim B’Tmoona” Association for their most important initiative and professional management, the Rehovot Cultural Foundation for its assistance, Dr. Mara Knebel, Acting Mayor and In-charge of the Municipal Cultural Portfolio, the distinguished women filmmakers from around the world who grace our city and our dear guests who honor us with their presence.
Pleasant viewing,
Shuki Forer
Mayor of Rehovot
